Literary adaptation is the process of transposing a written work — novel, short story, play, academic article — into audiovisual language. More than "copying" the book to the screen, it is a creative process that involves identifying the essence of the narrative and reconstructing it in cinematic terms: scenes, dialogue, rhythm and visual emotion.

Script writing
Writing of the screenplay in standard format (slugline, action, dialogue), transforming literary prose into visual scenes with framing, movement and continuity indications.
Revision and adjustments
Critical reading, correction of inconsistencies, dialogue and rhythm adjustments. Delivery of the final script with expanded treatment, step outline and literary screenplay in professional format.

What's the difference between a loose adaptation and a faithful one?
A faithful adaptation seeks to preserve the structure, characters and dialogue of the original work as much as possible. A loose adaptation uses the work as inspiration, creating a new narrative with original themes and characters. The choice depends on acquired rights, target audience and the director's creative vision.
Do I need to own the rights to the work to hire the adaptation?
Ideally yes, but we can work in stages: first I develop the treatment and step outline for you to present to production companies and investors, and the full script writing happens after rights acquisition. I also work with public domain works.
How long does it take to adapt a book into a screenplay?
It depends on complexity and length. A 300-page novel for a feature film takes 4 to 8 weeks including reading, analysis, step outline, writing and revision. Series projects or shorter deadlines can be negotiated with an expanded team.
Do you adapt only Brazilian literature or international works too?
Both. I have experience with Brazilian and international literature. If the work is in another language, I work with parallel technical translation to ensure adaptation accuracy — always respecting the original cultural context.
What is delivered at the end of the project?
Expanded treatment, scene-by-scene step outline and complete literary screenplay in standard format (Final Draft or PDF). By agreement, I can also deliver a technical script with camera and direction indications. All copyrights to the adapted screenplay are assigned by contract.
