Professional Animatic

Bring your storyboard to life — animated sequence with timing and audio to validate narrative pacing

An animatic is the natural evolution of a storyboard: a sequence of illustrations edited into video format, synchronized with audio (dialogue, sound effects, music) to simulate the rhythm and flow of a scene before final production. It works as an "animated draft" that allows you to test timing, framing and narrative before investing in full animation or live-action production.

With over 20 years of audiovisual production and expertise in tools like Krita, Blender and DaVinci Resolve, I create animatics that serve as both a technical and creative blueprint for animation studios, agencies and production companies.

OverviewWhat is a professional animatic?

The animatic is an industry standard in animation — used by studios like Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks — and increasingly adopted in live-action for complex VFX scenes. Storyboard panels are arranged in sequence with precise timing and audio to validate narrative pacing. It helps identify continuity issues, cut unnecessary scenes and adjust shot duration before production, saving time and money. Widely used for:

  • 2D and 3D animation (timing and framing planning)
  • Advertising (TV and digital commercials)
  • Film and series (complex scene pre-visualization)
  • Video games (cinematics and cutscenes)
  • Streaming and YouTube content

ProcessProject stages

1

Briefing and storyboard

We start from an existing storyboard or I create the necessary panels. Together we define the tone, pacing and key visual communication points for each scene.

2

Editing and timing

The panels are arranged in sequence in editing software with the exact duration for each shot. We adjust cuts, transitions and pacing to approximate the final experience.

3

Audio and voiceover

Adding dialogue (scratch or final), sound effects and synchronized music. Audio transforms the sequence into a realistic preview of the production.

4

Review and delivery

You watch, comment and request adjustments. The finished animatic serves as the approved blueprint for production — whether animation, filming or post-production.

FAQFrequently asked questions

What's the difference between an animatic and animation?

An animatic uses storyboard panels edited into video with audio — it's a pre-visualization. Animation is the final product with full motion, color and detail. Animatics are faster and cheaper to produce, ideal for testing pacing before investing in final animation.

Do I need a ready storyboard?

Not necessarily. I can create the storyboard and animatic together, or start from an existing storyboard. The important thing is having the scene sequence defined.

How long does an animatic take to produce?

A 30 to 60-second animatic with a ready storyboard takes 2 to 4 business days. Larger projects that include creating the storyboard are scoped individually.

Do you include professional audio in the animatic?

I include scratch voiceover and basic sound effects. For professional audio — final voiceover, original soundtrack or sound design — I can recommend partners or integrate them upon request.

Does an animatic replace a storyboard?

No, an animatic complements the storyboard. Many projects use both: the storyboard for framing detail and the animatic for timing and narrative validation.
